TAIPEI – ‘Sustainable’ synthetic fibre innovator Chromuch is taking a fresh approach to yarn production, and now offers sheath and core solution dyed yarns – made from rPET bottles – which it claims is: “the most eco-certified fibre brand in the industry.”

Speaking exclusively to Ecotextile News, Chromuch told us that: “the fibre is 100 per cent recycled polyester and certified.” Its certifications are said to include bluesign, GRS 4.0, Oeko Tex and both ISO-14001 and ISO-9001.

“Chromuch has chosen to seek all certifications it can to affect change in the polluting apparel industry. To date, sustainability efforts have mostly come from the consumer, one purchase at a time. Chromuch believes that it is the manufacturers deeper in the supply chain that should make changes for greater impact,” says the company.

A dope-dyed core-sheath type composite fibre contains a core layer and a sheath layer, which entirely covering the core layer. The core layer contains one or more dye materials with at least 0.1 per cent weight in the core part. Composites of the core layer and the sheath layer are both dye-soluble polymers, with the fineness of the core-sheath type composite fibre exceeding 0.5 denier-per-filament.

In regards to where it sources its rPET, Chromuch told us: “currently bottle sources are mainly from Taiwan, Japan and South East Asia. We are also expanding our sources from different geographic regions as needed.” It also noted that its current production capacity is 550 tonnes per month.

The company also told us about its Chromuch Now programme, which it says is: “a design friendly programme of select colours that are always in stock for low minimum order quantity, making it easy for brands to actually adopt solution dye.”

It added: “currently only big brands can meet the high minimum order quantities demanded by existing solution dye manufacturers.”

Chromuch is set to make its debut in the United States with its brand launch at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market, which takes place June 18th-20th in Denver, Colorado.
